Overview
Upon completion of this curriculum, the student
will obtain the necessary knowledge and skill to perform the daily
tasks of a graphic designer with the tools of Illustrator 10 and
QuarkXPress 5.
Prerequisites
Students must take the course Graphic Design Level

Part I: Illustrator 10
Module 1: Setting up a new document, Pen tool, Selection
tools, Zoom tool
1. Pen tool, Corner points, and Smooth points.
To add and subtract points. To convert
points and control handles.
Trace templates shapes. (1 hr.)
2. Direct Selection tool (white arrow tool).
3. Selection tool (black arrow tool).
4. Group Selection tool (white arrow with a +).
5. Overview of the Drawing tools Rectangular tool, Oval tool, Star tool,
Swirl tool,
Polygons tool etc.
Module 2: Transforms tools, Align, Pathfinder commands,
fill, stroke an object, brush tools.

II: QuarkXpress 5
Module 4: Setting up a new document, ruler, selections
tool, zoom tool. Item and Content tool, type, color, shapes, measurement
palette, and Modify palette.
1. Set up new document through the
new document palette size, columns, margin
guides etc.
2. Use horizontal and vertical rulers to create guides for alignment of
shapes,
and use of
non-printing guides.
3. Explanation of Item and Content tools. (Text and Picture tools).
4. Use the Shift key to constrain shapes and to make multiple selections.
5. Create and move around pictures and text shapes using the Item tool.
6. Use the Magnification tool and
holding the Option key to get around the
document.
7. Move, scale and manipulate shapes with the Content and Item tools.
8. Type in QuarkXPress. Add Color shapes.
9. Modify palette and Keyboard short cut Crtl. M.
10. Use the measurement palette, for text and pictures, rotation and
sizing for both
picture and text boxes.
Module 5: Import text, enlarge and reduce text, Import
pictures, Layers, Bezier Pen, Rotation tool, Line tool,
Frames.
1. Import text- via keyboard command and techniques for highlighting
text.
2. Enlarge and reduce text using keyboard command.
3. Text formatting utilizing the Paragraph Formats dialogues boxes, via
keyboard
command Crtl. Shift F-left, right, first line indent, paragraph spacing
and when
to use Drop Caps.
4. Import, enlarge and reduce
pictures, create a frame for picture and text shapes,
via Keyboard command.
5. Explanation of runarounds and their use.
6. Line and Rotation tools.
7. Using the Document Layout palette to get around a facing page
document;
rearrange page layout.
8. Master Page and Linking tool. Scissor and Bezier Pen tools.
9.Merge commands and how to use them to create shapes.
10.Freehand line and octagonal
line tools. Layers in QuarkXPress.
