The New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) serves more than two million New Yorkers though a wide range of social service programs. HRA increases the self-sufficiency of current and potential public assistance participants by engaging them in activities that lead to employment, enhance their skills and education, and maintain or advance their careers. HRA directs a variety of employment-focused programs to assist people in achieving self-reliance and assists individuals leaving public assistance to obtain transitional childcare and Medicaid benefits. HRA provides temporary income support and employment services or referrals at Job Centers located throughout the five boroughs. It also provides access to medical and food benefits at its Medicaid and Food Stamp offices. Support services for individuals with AIDS or HIV-related illnesses, adults requiring protective service and victims of domestic violence are also provided through HRA program offices. New York State Education Department Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) Benefits

VESID, an office of the New York State Education Department, provides vocational rehabilitations (VR) services to eligible individuals to prepare them for employment consistent with their strengths, abilities, and interests. Each year, VESID offers thousands of New Yorkers who have a mental, physical, or learning disability an opportunity to become independent through education, training, and employment. The many services provided by VESID include vocational assessment and career planning, counseling, training, special transportation, job placement, rehabilitation technology, consumer protection and independent living.
